Times and tides

Times and tides

So far from the sea
and the sigh of the surf,
I hear it though,
and the river brings,
on a breath of wind,
the smell of salt.

Night ocean’s awash
in skerries of stars,
each one a memory,
a face not lost,
in the long rolling tides
of time, the sandy past,

and the space that lies
between where we are,
and the bones of the ones
who were what we are,
lying deep as stars
in the belly of the sky.

I used to do lots of things I didn't much enjoy. Now I am officially a writer. It's what I always wanted to be.
