A month ago I was persuaded to give Substack a try. To my surprise, I liked it. If anyone was wondering why I have gone quiet here, it’s because I’m posting poems and stories over there and can’t keep up with being in two places at once. If you’re interested, I am at https://substack.com/@janedougherty47
Found you and subscribed.

Great! One of the things that most annoys me about WP is the glitches. I get hardly any notifications from the people I’d like to read and I don’t have the time to scroll through the reader on the off-chance someone I follow has posted something.

Do you have a substack? I can’t find you.

No I don’t. Maybe I’ll consider it in the new year, after youngest son, D’Law, and 2 grandchildren return home after Christmas. Or maybe during a moment of insanity I’ll do it sooner.

I thought it would be a pain. Like starting a new blog, but it’s not. There’s minimal set-up, you define yourself in a particular group (fiction, literature, art for example) and that’s it. Post, look at other offerings, comment or follow and it mushroom.

Perfect! I have the app installed on my phone, so I’ll check it during the day for work that you post. Do I receive an email notification when you post!

You should do. If you go to my substack there’s quite a lot of stuff on there already. I post a lot. Probably far too much!

I’m very nterested but I too can’t keep up with any more platforms…I will miss you terribly, not only your work, but your feedback, but I understand.

I’ll keep coming here to get your notifications. Your blog is one of the few I get them for. Starting a substack is very painless. I wouldn’t have done it if it had been difficult. I like the contact there. It’s disinterested. I’m not cutting off contact, just not going to post much here.

A lot of people have already left for substack, and though at the beginning I tried to follow some of them, I just don’t have the attention or energy–I’m too scattered, I barely have the focus for WordPress. But like I said, I understand. I will be happy to see you if you do check in. Will you at least do the Oracle here?
LikeLike
Yes, I’ll do the Oracle. She lives here, wouldn’t like to insist she moves somewhere else.
I enjoy the energy at Substack. There’s a lot of interaction and mutual discovery that I don’t find here. There’s an obligation with WP to trade likes and comments because it’s polite but it isn’t very constructive and it’s very time consuming. I’d rather read what I enjoy and comment if I feel moved to, not because it’s polite.

That’s true. I’m glad I’ll at least find you here once a week.

I’m not deleting the blog, just not posting much. I’ll read all your posts xx

Ahw will miss you. I enjoyed Substack for a bit, but ultimately felt like it was too much scroll, scroll, scroll for me.😬

I like it. I don’t do much scrolling, far less than I’d have to do here to find people I follow. On Substack I get notifications which I don’t here and there’s no pressure to reply immediately.

I will try to keep reading you there, but I will miss you here.

I’ll try to post, but apart from you and a handful of other lovely people, it feels empty here. This ‘new’ blog never took off. Very few people moved here from the old one. Maybe I should take the hint and admit that I’ve done blogging and move onto something different.

That’s lovely to hear, Beth xx I just don’t get much pleasure out of posting here any more. I’ll post sometimes, but not as often as before.

it makes perfect sense, I’ve always thought the time to change or stop something is when you know
