Winter dreaming
The dream waxes into a forest,
unfolds into a summer flower.
I could live there, like this,
in the nave of bird-chant
that worships nothing, that is everything.
You are a piece of the pattern to me,
the woven, stitched and sung world-hanging
that stretches from winter,
through the burgeoning seasons
to the final letting go.
Like leaves, we sink into soft, cold drifts,
let the crisp night cover us with starlight.
Unlike leaves, we collect wishes with chilled fingers,
hoping that the turning of the year
will see us unfurl again.
This is so beautiful, Jane! I sort of sighed at the end with that unfurling.
I love this, ” I could live there, like this,
in the nave of bird-chant”

Thank you xx That’s the dream, isn’t it? To be able to fit into the wild world as if we belonged there.

I can’t pick a favorite part. A hush inside a wondrous world composed of the ever-evolving patterns of love. (K)

Thank you xx I’m pleased you saw that in the poem. I let the Oracle guide the way. She never gets it wrong.

Stunning imagery! I love the stanza, “Like leaves…” We got snow and it feels like a deep sleep is in order.

Thanks Colleen xx We had the gloomiest, wettest year in 2024 and it’s continued in 2025. Until today! The sun is back but it’s frosty this morning.

It’s cold and snowy (off and on) today. We get the gloom from Lake Michigan, so I understand the gray!

There is such a thing as light deprivation, and I feel we’re suffering from it. We’re down for a week of sunshine though. Yipee!

Oh, yes. We are under a gray gloom much of the winter. Some folks use those sun lamps. I just plug along, hermit that I am. xxx

I’d have to be pretty desperate to use a sun lamp. How is that a substitute for real light?

Last month we had one sunny day. In the winter when it’s cold, it’s hard to go out. Our current temperature is 14 F. Light snow (lake-effect from Lake Michigan) continues to fall. We have about 5 or 6 inches. The sun is trying to peek through the white veil of clouds.

The coldest we’ve had (today) was 25°F at night and 45°F in the day. It feels freezing cold. The seasonal average for January is 50°F. I’d die in Michigan.

This is really beautiful Jane. I try but can’t really draw a favourite line or stanza. Maybe the second stanza in the way in which it enfolds the whole. Wow, lovely writing and thoughts.

Thank you, Chris xx I just follow the pattern of words the magnets give, and a poem comes out of it. I’m pleased you like how this one flowed.
