Jane Dougherty is a writer of Irish origin brought up in Yorkshire. She studied American Society and Literature, Nineteenth Century English Literature and Early European Medieval History at Manchester University then trained to be a teacher at Goldsmiths College. Her first job though was in the wine trade in London, and a year later she asked to be transferred to Paris. She has lived in France ever since, Paris, Picardy, Aquitaine and Guyenne, working in wine, then translation and as voice actress.

She began writing for her teenage children but now writes mainly for adults, novels that lie somewhere between historical reality and mythical fantasy. After several false starts, her first novel, Pasiphaë, was published by Legend Press in February 2026. It re-imagines the myth of the mother of the Minotaur, setting it in a plausible historical context.

Jane also writes poetry and has twice been nominated for the Pushcart Prize.
